just weeks after the city of albuquerque launched its new bicyclist safety campaign– a biker was hit and killed by a driver who reportedly didn t see him today was that biker s funeral austin reed joins us with more on that and how the cycling community is paying tribute austin 56-year old david anderson was riding on a bike path near fourth street when he was hit and killed by a car earlier this week now his death has sparked one local group to share his story with others all in hopes of saving lives the chances of something like this someone leaving the road by getting onto the bike path is just astronomically impossible this was the scene during monday evenings rush hour on eastbound paseo at coors all traffic lanes– shutdown for a pretty long time its just a real tragedy it happened at all deputies say a driver told them another car cut her off causing her to lose control and veer onto the bike path the crash killed bycyclist david anderson nats this morning family and friends gathered at sage brush church to say good-bye to anderson many members of the group bike- abq who promotes bycyclist safety were also on hand for the funeral they wore their bike-abq shirts to honor david i m confident the family is behind this david s wife was a cyclist before him and got him into it so she really wants to have a ghost bike up and now another local group that promotes bike safety plans to honor him ghost bikes are bikes that are painted white and are put up at sites where a biker was severely hit or killed while riding their bike soon– the duke city wheel men will put one up for david the group already has a few other of these ghost bikes up but they re not hoping for more it is personal and it is also something the cycling community is behind because i mean we really want drivers to slow down be retentive and not be distracted once the family recovers from the funeral duke city wheel men says they will discuss with the andersons on when and how to put up the ghost bike and by they way the driver who killed anderson will not likely be charged
