No one s got to tell you that Matthew McConaughey s just dripping with charm We ve seem him play serious roles of course but McConaughey s in all his glory as the glib womanizer in Ghosts of Girlfriends Past McConaughey collects and discards women without giving them a second thought It s a callousness that s about to come back and haunt him McConaughey s so wrapped up in his multiple love lives he s probably clueless that the ghost of his lecherous Uncle Michael Douglas tears a page out of A Christmas Carol to teach him a lesson McConaughey s so pathologically cynical he just might derail his kid brother s wedding plans
You can t say that Ghosts of Girlfriends Past doesn t have any bite to its humor Jennifer Garner one of a long line of McConaughey s jilted lovers knows how to hold a grudge
Garner gives one of her best performances trying to reform the mean spirited Lothario She and McConaughey inject the lightweight plot with so much sparkle that some of their charm rubs off on the silly screenplay But with the cares of the world weighing you down Ghosts of Girlfriends Past just could be the ticket to an appealing escape on Saturday night
You can see that Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is no earthshaking cinematic achievement But for a few laughs and some winning star performances you won t regret my giving this flick 3 stars It s a decision I hope won t come back to haunt me This is Sy Becker with another look at the movies
